Russell Bright

CEO and Director

Russell is a chartered engineer with 30+ years in business, most recently leading businesses in technology-driven markets including Water, Industrial Services, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Chemicals. He has diverse experience gained in large blue-chip corporates, SMEs, and family owned businesses. He had great success maximising profitability and driving business growth using creative and innovative commercial solutions, including Veolia Water Industrial Outsourcing.


Daniel Murray

CTO and Director

Daniel is one of the world’s top algal scientists and has conceived and led on the development of IPHYCs technology. Daniel has worked on algae from an applied viewpoint as both a problem and a tool for the water industry with a focus on the development of processes for the scale up and commercial use of algae. Daniel has published in academic journals, won a range of awards and has sat on the on the management board of the UK steering group for algal research ‘Phyconet’.


Stephen Burt

Finance Director

Stephen is a Chartered Accountant and Governance professional with 25+ years in business. Having qualified with PriceWaterhouse he has worked across a variety of South Wales’ blue-chip manufacturing businesses. Most recently leading the Clinical Solutions business of Berendsen plc (£60m turnover, 600 employees, 4 UK locations) as Managing Director. He has been involved in a number of SME start-ups and lead the turnaround of Rocialle Ltd. Stephen currently serves as a business coach with the Welsh government’s Accelerated Growth Programme.

Andrew Best

Business Development Manager

Leads the sales and commercial activities. Andrew has >25 years sales experience in the water industry, including solutions to Phosphorus discharge.


Kevan Billington

Proposal Engineer

A mechanical engineer with almost twenty-five years’ experience working in the water industry specialising in a number of both water and waste-water treatment technologies including disinfection and solutions for P removal.


Justine Buxton

Marketing Manager

CIM qualified marketer, with a varied and extensive career in Marketing for small and new businesses.



Norman Heighway

Engineering Manager

Brings with him >25 years technical engineering within the water industry.


Mitch Stalley

Service Engineer

Mitch is a HNC qualified mechanical and electrical engineer with experience working in the water industry. His knowledge and experience is ever growing in his field of expertise.

Dr Thea Ekins-Coward

Chief Scientific Officer

Dr Thea Ekins-Coward is one of the world’s leading applied algal scientists. Her career is diverse ranging from bio-remediation, process intensification of the UK water industry, utilising new technologies for carbon capture, production of bioplastics from renewables, investigating aquaculture waste as a biocoal feedstock, producing high-value products from marine resources, and production of biodiesel from microalgae. Thea’s background has developed her ability to adjust effectively, think innovatively, is why she is the best fit for us here at I-Phyc, leading the Scientific team from strength to strength.


Dr Ana Castro-Castellon

Senior Scientist

Dr Ana Castro-Castellon is an applied scientist and aquatic ecologist with over 16 years’ experience working in the water industry, including her PhD. Her expertise in water quality from catchment to source to tap is underpinned by her multidisciplinary background in environmental microbiology, water chemistry and monitoring, ecological engineering, anthropogenic pollutants investigation, remediation, and optimizing treatment processes. Ana has published in academic journals and presented at national and international venues to disseminate her research and science to schools and universities.

Laboratory Technician

BSc Biochemistry from University of Bristol and an MSc in applied Marine Science from University of Plymouth.

BSc in biological sciences and MSc in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture from University of Exeter.

Kate Corcoran

Management Accountant

Kate is a qualified chartered accountant and looks after the office, finance and admin needs of the company.

Karl is a serial inventor and entrepreneur who has built and sold a number of highly innovative businesses including Pelipod (sold to BT), MetaPack (sold to, and Abacus (sold to MindCTI) and has invented and brought to market a number of products and information systems.


Mohammed Saddiq

Executive Director of Operations for Wessex Water Services

Mohammed is MD of Wessex Water Enterprises, and Operations Director of Wessex Water Services. He is an experienced and senior voice from the water industry who brings knowledge and industry insight to the Board.
